If you go to CCSU and are looking for a latin dance class look no further.
CCSU provides a free dance class for their students called COLADA. COLADA stands for Centrals Organization for Latin American Dance Awareness.
COLADA was formed to help promote, share, and further the understanding and awareness of Latin American culture through dance and music; while encouraging other individuals with a different ethnic background to participate.
The organization teaches various styles of dance such as Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Kizomba, Cha-cha, Tango, and is open to teaching other styles of dance as well.
Regular Meeting Times is Tuesday and Thursday 7:30p – 9:30pm in the Midcampus Dance Studio.
The class currently has about 16 members that are CCSU students. Not everyone in the dance class is a dance major or minor. The students use it as a fun activity, exercise, and another way to meet new people or just to learn how to dance.
The organization occasionally has different events where they perform their dance routines by going to public schools for students in elementary, middle, and high school around the New Britain and Hartford area. To stay up to date on these events you can follow the COLADA Instagram page.
The COLASO event is planned for April 21, 2018 on a Saturday at 7:00pm in the Alumni Student Center, is a collaborated event between COLADA and LASO (Latin American Student Organization). This event is going to be a live Gala that is open to the public that will be an award ceremony. The event will also be having a live band, a DJ, and latin food.
